The surface of the tabletop is slatted to help prevent water from pooling. There's also an opening in the center for an umbrella (sold separately).

Received this set today in 4 large boxes. Well packaged-but be ready for ALOT of hard cardboard to dispose of afterwards! Chairs were assembled, table easily assembled with 8 screws.
