The Joss & Main Aleja bed arrived well packed with no damage and looks exactly like the picture. We had box springs but it made the mattress too high against the headboard. We added a bunky board and the mattress height is exactly where it should be. We have a Beautyrest Black mattress which is 10" high and fills the frame right to the edges. This bed frame looks exactly like the picture! The description says it is not compatible with an adjustable bed frame. The reviews from others say it is compatible. I love this bed, works with our coastal decor very well. This is the 2nd time I buy one (used also in a vacation rental). Very well made and sturdy. Arrived early and was easy to install. Highly recommend. NOTE - might have implied that you do not need a box spring, but you do (especially if you have a memory foam mattress). I recommend a 4" profile box spring, or 1 piece of plywood. I used the plywood because the box spring would take the mattress higher than I want, not to mention that it would also cover more of the headboard (which is the best part of the bed design).. Ellie.
