The Joss & Main Aleja bed arrived well packed with no damage and looks exactly like the picture. We had box springs but it made the mattress too high against the headboard. We added a bunky board and the mattress height is exactly where it should be. We have a Beautyrest Black mattress which is 10" high and fills the frame right to the edges. I love this bed, works with our coastal decor very well. This is the 2nd time I buy one (used also in a vacation rental). Very well made and sturdy. Arrived early and was easy to install. Highly recommend. NOTE - might have implied that you do not need a box spring, but you do (especially if you have a memory foam mattress). I recommend a 4" profile box spring, or 1 piece of plywood. I bought this hoping my adjustable frame would fit in it and with some modifications, it did! We removed the brackets on the inside headboard and footboard as well as the pieces on the inside of the sides of the frame. That allowed just enough movement for our adjustable frame to move freely.
